Weight loss isn’t always about willpower—sometimes, it’s about finding a plan that fits your life and tackles the habits holding you back.
As a hypnotist, I’ve noticed something interesting over the years: People often judge whether they can trust someone to help them change based on that person’s own lifestyle choices.
For example, someone once told me she couldn’t work with a hypnotist who still smoked—even if that hypnotist had a great track record helping people quit.
That stuck with me. Not because I disagreed, but because I understood her point of view. But, here’s the truth: hypnotists are human too. We have our own struggles, just like everyone else.
So in the spirit of honesty, here I am—walking the path. Yes, I’m a hypnotist. And yes, I’m also working on losing weight and feeling better in my body. This time, I’m not messing around (yeah, I almost said a stronger word).
The reality is that no one, even a hypnotist, will make a change until they are ready, when they hit a tipping point and decide that enough is enough.
What I’m Doing
I signed up for WW meetings, not because I’m following their full program, but because I like the weekly weigh-ins. Having someone else check in with me helps keep me on track.
But when I tried using the WW points system for my weight loss, I only made it about two days.
Here’s why:
I looked at a pack of Vachon Au Caramel Cakes—you know, those two little snack cakes? I had one in the kitchen. They’re 250 calories total. Yes, they have sugar, but it’s nothing I can’t manage with the rest of my meals that day. And I love them.
I could burn off those 250 calories by walking on the treadmill at 2 mph for about an hour. I could even split it up into two 30-minute walks because exercise is cumulative and adds up over the day.
But with WW? Those cakes are 16 points. Over half of a daily points allowance. I have no idea how much walking I’d have to do to burn off that many points.
It made me feel like I’d done something wrong just for enjoying a snack I like. That’s not the kind of relationship I want with food.
So, I switched to counting calories using My Net Diary instead. It feels more balanced. I can make better choices, stay on track, and not feel guilty about the occasional treat.
Will I eat those delicious little cakes every day? Of course not, but it’s nice to know that I can have one occasionally, and do a little more exercise to manage it.

Hypnosis Helps Too
Since I’m a hypnotist, I’m also using hypnosis to deal with the things that usually trip me up.
Like:
- Eating out of boredom at night
- Giving in to chocolate bars and chips
- Putting things in my grocery cart without thinking
Hypnosis helps me stay calm, clear, and more in control—without fighting myself all the time.
I’m not trying to be perfect. I’m trying to make things easier by working with my mind, not against it.
I’m Just Being Real about Weight Loss
I’m not doing anything extreme.
I’m not trying to drop 20 pounds in a week.
I’m just doing what works for me—one step at a time.
And I’ll be posting updates in the comments as I go—what’s working, what’s tough, and what I’m learning along the way.
If you’ve ever felt like your weight struggles aren’t just about food…
If you’re tired of starting over…
If you know what to do but still feel stuck…
You’re not alone.
And if the problem feels like it’s more on the inside—with stress, cravings, or habits you can’t break—hypnosis might help.
If you’re curious, reach out. I’d love to talk with you about how we can make the change feel easier.

We decided to go out for breakfast, our first restaurant meal in a week (which is unusual for us) besides a stop at a Mr. Sub yesterday for a quick lunch because we were in St. Thomas, it was after 1:00 pm, and I was getting hangry. We went to Sunset Grill, my go-to place for breakfast. I was happily surprised to realize partway into my breakfast that I was feeling full sooner (thank you, hypnosis). I did eat all of my eggs, but left most of my home fries (and let’s face it, the homefries at Sunset are my #1 reason for going there), and I didn’t finish all my bacon. I did enjoy a small amount of jam on half a slice of toast.
So, I’m feeling pumped and motivated to continue into next week.
For those who may question going out for breakfast while reducing weight, here’s some food for thought (no pun intended): over a year, three meals a day equals 1090 meals. Even with one breakfast like this a week, that’s 48 meals out of 1090 (I don’t intend to do this every week though). Yes, in the short term, the extra sodium and calories in a larger meal like this could add some weight, but I prefer to take the long view, and in a year’s time, this breakfast will be a minor blip on the year’s meals.
This was a good week. Enjoyed Chinese take out. But instead of having an entire take out lunch dish with the sweet and sour, fried rice and chop suey, we chose a meal for one with the egg roll, four chicken wings, fried rice and beef chop suey. We added a szchuan shimp dish. I enjoyed a couple of the wings, half of the single serving of chop suey and fried rice and a few of the shrimps. And I lost 1.4 pounds this week, so things are moving right along.
This was a good week. Two more pounds kicked to the curb and I’m 12 pounds away from my 20 pound goal. Cutting out the heavy desserts and avoiding restaurants helps. And of course tracking and doing my self-hypnosis. Onward!
