I Just Listened to Go for No!—And It Really Got Me Thinking

I listened to the audiobook Go for No! by Richard Fenton and Andrea Waltz today. I found the book amazing! It’s short, but it has a lot of good information.

And I have a question for you:

How often have you wondered, “Should I ask?” in a sales meeting? Then, a little voice says, “What if they say no?”

Here’s the line from the book that stuck with me:

“Yes” might be the goal—but getting there usually means hearing a few “no’s” along the way.

fear of hearing no

Let’s Talk About Rejection (The Kind That Happens in Business)

We tend to avoid rejection and take the word “no” personally. But this book flips that idea completely on its head. Instead of running from “no,” the authors suggest we should go after it.

Why? The more “no’s” you collect, means that you’re knocking on more doors, making more sales calls and having more conversations – and you’re getting closer to “yes”

Whether you’re cold calling, sending follow-up emails or voice mails, pitching a service, or just putting yourself out there more, if you do not hear “no” occasionally, you might not be pushing yourself far enough.

I know—it sounds weird at first. But once it clicks, it’s like… oh yeah, this makes sense. Still, understanding the concept doesn’t magically make the fear disappear. And that’s where hypnosis comes in.

How Hypnosis Helps You Get Past the Fear of “No”

A lot of high-achieving professionals know exactly what to do. They’ve got the training, the know-how, and the ambition. But when it’s time to make the move, something stops them. That fear of rejection is real—and it’s rarely about the moment in front of you.

It usually traces back to something much deeper: sometime in your past, you learned to take no personally. Maybe you had a tough boss or teacher who was overly critical or judgemental. Maybe others in your life told you that you’re not enough, and eventually, you believed it. Eventually, it was cemented into your subconscious, which believed it was real. It became noise, and here’s the thing: hypnosis helps get underneath all that noise and helps you believe that you are good enough, that “no” is just a word, it’s not a slap at you and that yes, you can succeed.

It lets you quiet the part of your mind that’s still trying to protect you from something that happened years ago. Hypnosis can help you build a new, confident, fearless reaction.

Instead of holding back, you may start to:

  • stop overthinking and take action,
  • get used to hearing the word “no” and realize that it has not power over you,
  • decide to take a different approach when things don’t work out as you expected, or
  • double-down on your goals instead of letting the word “no” stop you.

Because here’s the truth:

“No” doesn’t mean stop. It just means next.

The book uses a surgeon as an example. Eventually, every surgeon loses a patient – it’s a sad reality of the job. In order for that surgeon to return to the OR for the next patient’s operation, they have to keep the word “next” in mind.

The same thing goes for sales calls.

You’re Not Broken—You’re Wired for Survival

If fear of rejection has been slowing you down, I want you to hear this loud and clear:

You are not broken or weak. You are human.

Your brain is wired to protect you—but sometimes that protective wiring gets outdated. Hypnosis is one of the best ways to gently update that wiring so it works for you, not against you.

It’s not about pretending you’re fearless. It’s about creating the internal space to take action even when there’s a little uncertainty. It’s about how after a rejection, you say, “next”.

And you don’t have to figure it out alone.
